Hate to correct you, but we traded Halpern for Purcell and got a 3rd rounder coming back. However I agree that Teddy has done really well within our system and will continue us to excel. PS I'm write about TJ, you could transplant his entire Line (Panik, Johnson and Palat) to the NHL and they wouldn't miss a beat.

Oooops! Typo. It's late
I remember when Lawton got him from the Kings. He was always a player who intrigued me simply because the AHL numbers were there, he was a decent-enough skater and he seemed to have good hockey sense. That said, I wasn't "excited" about the deal at the time. I spoke to Ek about this deal at length and we both agree that this was one of the most underrated moves the Bolts have made in recent history. Cheers to Lawton and the Bolts' pro-scouts for nabbing Purcell.

Johnson has been absolutely unreal in the last few games. I watched last night/tonight's (whatever you want to call it) game against the Sharks and man, this AHL group is a well-oiled machine.

Repeat Mini-Bolts Calder Cup? Not out of the realm of possibility.

Another great write up. As a Kings fan Teddy wasnt really ever given a good chance with the Kings. Terry Murray didnt really do much with the younger players who had the high end talent that needed some work and time to fit in. He tended to just throw them in and if there wasnt results they were out. The kids never got big chances.

In Tampa they gave him time to fit in and gel with the other players. We def over paid for Halpren who did nothing for us. Good to see him doing well. I hoped he was gonna fit in with Kopi. But just wasnt given a good enough shot.

Thank you, as always! You bring up a great point about Purcell not really being given a shot under Murray. Matt Moulson is another great example of a guy who wasn't able to excel under Murray. That being said, in my opinion, Murray did a great job with a lot of the "bigger name" guys on the Kings' roster like Kopitar, Brown etc.

However, it was nice to see Sutter give guys like Jordan Nolan and Dwight King a chance to be real contributors in the playoffs this past season. King, in particular, proved that sometimes young guys just need to be given a shot to succeed. Guys like him in LA, and Purcell here in Tampa, came out of relative obscurity to make a difference.

i would love a conacher, johnson, killorn/palat/panik line in the NHL as our 3rd line. would be awesome. no one could match our scoring. but i cant wait for the red army line. kucherov, namestnikov, gusev, nesterov, sergeev with vasilevskiy in net

i really wish we could get koshechkin over here. his numbers are fantastic in the KHL. he had 12 wins last season and 6 of them were shutouts. his GAA has been between 1.80 and 2.60 through his career.

With 65 points last season, it's not hard to imagine a point-per-game campaign.

Cammy actually had a good shot in LA. That was also before Murray was coach. Cammy has ego issues in my opinion and that didnt go over well. I hated to see him go because i was a fan of his.

Murray treated King the same way when he was here. He threw that kid straight onto a line with Kopi and put so much pressure on him. King wasnt even a big point producer in the AHL. I love Murray as a coach and what he did to develop the sense of playing defense and being responsible. But I was always worried about how he handled the younger players who didnt have all the high end talent. I knew he wasnt gonna be here much longer. I was really worried with how he handled Loktionov. Kid has so much talent but was always put into situation and positions he doesnt play. Loktionov will be the next player the Kings trade or lose in the offseason who makes an impact somewhere else.

Moulson is very similar to Purcell in which he had good AHL number. But he played under Marc Crawford who is also terrible with young players. Crawford isnt good for young player development. Would of been cool to still have Moulson because he and Jonathan Quick are brother in laws.

Down the stretch, there was a period where Purcell and Malkin were on a ridiculously hot scoring stretch. In fact, I'm not sure that (other than Malkin) there was a better player in the league to close the season. He was a force to be reckoned with.
